Our raw cane sugar milling is almost carbon neutral. Even the natural cane fibre from the growing process powers the mills in Belize. We then ship the raw sugar over to the UK which generates relatively little CO2 per tonne. The ships then unload the sugar directly into our refinery on the banks of the Thames in London.
At the refinery the sugar is filtered, purified and re-crystalised. We're investing £20 million in a new biomass boiler which cuts carbon emissions from fossil fuels by an amazing 70%.
Fairtrade, fair to the planet - when your sugar is Tate & Lyle there are lots of good reasons to smile.
